About Us

Our Story

Abbey Furniture is a bit of a family affair. And it starts with Mister Restoration.

Mister Restoration began over 45 years ago. It was purchased by Alice – when she was 19 years old.

A few years later she was later joined by her husband, Nick.

Together they have served the Dundas area (and far beyond) for over 45 years, restoring family heirlooms and antiques, making kitchen tables safe to again look at and furnishing homes with beautiful and durable solid-wood furniture. They have mended almost every kind of wooden household item you can imagine (chairs, pianos, radio cabinets, antique sewing machines, blanket boxes, desks, nest tables, etc.) Their work earned them the trust of their customers and a number of Reader’s Choice awards.

About 8 years ago, I, Andy, the son of Nick and Alice, joined the family team.

And now, after over 45 years of business, my parents have decided to retire Mister Restoration.

Working part-time in the non-profit sector I have not the time and energy to continue the business in the same capacity as Mister Restoration. But I’m not ready to let it go. I love working with my hands. I have the experience and skill to continue the work. And I want to see the work and family tradition continue.

Things will be different, of course. The stripping and spraying of furniture will take on different methods. We are moving to hand-applied, oil finishes. We won’t be able to meet all the same needs. But, we believe that we can continue serving the Greater Hamilton area with the same quality work and products that have made Mister Restoration a success for almost half a century.

About the Name

I wear many hats. In addition to being a tradesman, I am a father and husband. I am a follower of Jesus. I have a Master’s degree in theology and love history. In history, the Abbey, at it best, was a place for prayer, service, community and industry. Even today, contemporary Abbeys (though harder to find) still produce many useful goods and services. It is my hope that Abbey Furniture will provide a useful service to the Dundas/ Hamilton community and be a place where integrity can be expected and relied upon.

I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Andy Groen
